Openbox, Fbpanel

December 19, 2008 — BarryK
I'm currently testing Openbox and Fbpanel in Woof. These are the excellent PETs created by plinej. Plinej is one of those guys who quietly works away in the background, and creates superb handcrafted packages. I compiled the latest version of Openbox and put that into Plinej's package.

Fbpanel seems ok, less plugins than Lxpanel. I think someone got the free-memory applet working with Fbpanel/Lxpanel?

Oh yes, I'm running Woof right now. Gradually chasing down those bugs. Running SeaMonkey.

"I used plinej's lxpanel 0.2.9 as a guide to patch lxpanel 0.3.8.1. You can find a tarball with lxpanel, openbox, freememapplet (eggtray patched by MU and mangled by me), and scripts here: http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/kirk/openbox-lxpanel/ You'll also find the patched source for lxpanel 0.3.8.1. The patch lets lxpannel know where to look for .desktop files and icons. Lxpanel generates it's own menus. But maybe that's not needed for woof. Anyway, you can just extract the binary tarball into Puppy 4 if you want to try it out. I've been using openbox & lxpanel for a while, works pretty well, handles full screen with gxine and flash, as long as you get a newer version of flash. Openbox does have a problem with Seamonkey's download dialog windows, they don't get focused correctly.
