Slack woof works nicely, JWM

February 09, 2009 — BarryK
I have got the Slackware build working very nicely, so now I think I'll return my attention to the Ubuntu build.

One thing, while I think of it. I've got HairyWill's patched JWM in Woof, which works fine, though I haven't tested full-screen yet. I saw yesterday on the forum that HairWill reported a problem with the latest revision but I must have an earlier one from SVN.

Anyway, I would like to put in a feature request for JWM. The buttons in the taskbar and highlighted entry in the menu are 3D, that is, they have a 3-dimensional shading effect. But, what I would like is an option for them to be "flat", that is, with just a one or two pixel border (maybe make that configurable too) and no 3D or shading effect.

The reason I would like this as Woof currently has a flat theme for GTK, plus the JQ8 grey flat desktop icons.

I would like to extend a big thank you to Will for taking JWM on-board. I recently posted to this blog with some thoughts on JWM, including a list of things that needed fixing -- and comments were posted listing some more. Will also responded, and got stuck into tackling the full-screen problem. He also put JWM up on SVN.

"Dougal, No, it's not because of the gradient. I already have a JWM theme with flat colors, and get the 3D effect. I have posted a picture: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=273589#273589
