Alpha7 miscellaneous feedback

May 18, 2009 — BarryK
Lobster reported that mtPaint cannot save to JPG. I checked, no problem. Your image must be 'RGB' not 'indexed' -- see 'Image' menu -- I'm guessing that this is your oversight.

Tasmod reported that clicking on the 'write' icon, Abiword does not start. Testing with a pristine alpha7/8, I checked, there is no problem. Two possible reasons for tasmod having this problem -- upgraded a 'pup-save' that has somehow corrupted Abiword, or severe memory lack (which would also affect starting of other applications). Either way, nothing I can do about it.

ARAN reported that Pmount does not work. I just checked, Pmount works for me. The problem with this bug report is that it is a sweeping generalisation, no specific details. An unusual filesystem, such as ext4, perhaps?

Martin and techtype report that Pnethood Samba Shares is not finding any shares.
I don't think that I can be much help with this one ...who is our Pnethood developer? -- HairyWill? -- he is taking some time off to be with his family etc.
Well, for a start, have the correct kernel drivers loaded? Run a Puppy in which Pnethood works, run 'lsmod' in a terminal -- you should see 'smbfs.ko' loaded I think, maybe also 'cifs.ko'. Then run alpha7/8 and check loaded modules.
Try running 'pnethood' from a terminal, see if it displays any error messages.

urxvt has long has searchable-scrollback<M-s> I have tried with alpha 7 and it does not work. Has the option not been compiled? It is very useful when trying to find a problem with a compile. I compiled searchable-scrollback in Puppy 4.1.2 and it works great.

"Hello Barry I first tried to submit the comment about urxvt from a Mac running Safari browser. It did not work probably because the "action" attribute in the form was absent. SeaMonkey on the Mac worked. 17.3 The FORM element <!ELEMENT FORM - - (%block;|SCRIPT)+ -(FORM) -- interactive form --> <!ATTLIST FORM %attrs; -- %coreattrs, %i18n, %events -- action %URI; #REQUIRED -- server-side form handler -- method (GET|POST) GET -- HTTP method used to submit the form-- enctype %ContentType; "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" accept %ContentTypes; #IMPLIED -- list of MIME types for file upload -- name CDATA #IMPLIED -- name of form for scripting -- onsubmit %Script; #IMPLIED -- the form was submitted -- onreset %Script; #IMPLIED -- the form was reset -- accept-charset %Charsets; #IMPLIED -- list of supported charsets -- > Start tag: required, End tag: required Attribute definitions action = uri [CT] This attribute specifies a form processing agent. User agent behavior for a value other than an HTTP URI is undefined.

"[i]Lobster reported that mtPaint cannot save to JPG. I checked, no problem. Sorry for the confusion . . .

CD scrap

"Barry, My reported problem was my fault, or at least my cd drive. On turning a few of my cd disks over I discovered light scratches on them. it appears my drive lens has moved and scratching the disks. Off to get a new one. I fixed my samba shares by copying over my Samba folder from 420 and it worked. I made a pet and posted this in the bugs sub forum for others to try. Rob (tasmod)

"Barry, I'm having problems with pnethood under 471 as well. The Windows machine "LEX" is detected but pnethood reports no shares available. If I reboot into 412, everything works. "yes, alpha7/8 does not have the SCSI drivers. I need to do a special SCSI build, as I did back in ...when was it, alpha 5 or 6? Samba: yes, now fixed, see my post: http://bkhome.org/archive/blog2/200905/samba-maybe-fixed.html

"Hi :) About Comments... try removing onclick="javascript:this.disabled=true" From "Add Comment" button, maybe that helps, at least, it should work for IE.

"Barry I just received this email from the PPLOG author: Thanks for reporting! I think it is fixed now, the problem was because of the javascript code 'onclick="javascript:this.disabled=true"' So try removing that, its fixed in the latest version of PPLOG i think, anyways, i havent worked on PPLOG for a while...I shall do it :P
