ext4 f.s. troubleshooting

May 09, 2009 — BarryK
There was some alpha6 feedback that Pmount failed to mount a ext4 filesystem. No further details were supplied.

I currently don't have a ext4 partition to test.

Can someone please confirm this problem? If yes, then could you do this:

1. Is the ext4 partition displayed in Pmount?

2. What about on a desktop icon when you mouse-over?

3. Does it mount when click the desktop icon?

4. Say the ext4 partition is /dev/sda3, run this:
# guess_fstype /dev/sda3
...correct answer?

5. Run Pmount in a terminal:
# pmount
...any error message when try to mount the ext4 partition?

Pmount shows the ext4 partition and places an icon on the desktop, but it incorrectly lists it as ext3. When I try to mount it, I get an error message. Guess_fstype comes back as ext3. On console, it displays the following error message: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda5, missing codepage or other error. Let me know if you need any additional information.

"I created an ext4 partition by booting a vanilla Arch and using mkfs.ext4 on a separate hd (sdb1) Then created a frugal install of uPup466 on another ext2 partition. 1. yes - as an ext3 ptn 2. there is an icon on the desktop; hover shows it as being recognised as an ext3 ptn 3. No 3a. If i try to mount it in pmount it says "Error: unable to mount sdb1" 4. No, guess_fstype returns ext3 5. WebDAV fs mounting?

"Besides ext4 fs mounts, Puppy seems to have always been challenged by WebDAV fs mounts/support, too. Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning, or WebDAV, ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV I happen to need WebDAV support since my websites are hosted on servers that only provide WebDAV access for content management. My Mac mounts WebDAV fses and browses the mounted WebDAV fses just fine. How about Puppy? Thank you, Eddie Maddox Inwood IA USA

"Thanks for the feedback. We need to contact Jesse about this, as guess_fstype is his baby. guess_fstype is what Pmount calls to determine the filesystem in partitions. I'll send him a p.m.
