Puppy with WINE builtin

August 26, 2009 — BarryK
A couple of days ago I gave a Puppy 4.21 CD to a local farmer. Yesterday he came back, quite excited. He said that he booted the CD on his PC and his son's PC and everything worked, and he got onto the Internet straightaway no hassles.

The reason that he came back to see me, is he wants to run Windows applications in Puppy. That's not something I'm into, but I suggested the easiest route for him might be to download a Puppy derivative with WINE builtin.

The only one I know of is tazoc's Lighthouse pup:

...which looks real nice from the description and snapshots.

Does anyone know of any other puplets with WINE builtin, or alternatively a pre-prepared WINE pet that will just install and run without requiring any setup?

Anyway, I'll send an email to the farmer, let him know about Lighthouse pup.

wine builtin

"Hi Barry, 'm using wine-1.1.12.sfs loaded at bootup through the Bootmanager. I do not like wine-1.1.20.sfs which I found too heavy for my needs. I find .sfs files a more flexible solution than installing a wine.pet (if frugal install possible !) I'll get a try on Lighthouse Pup (thnx tazoc !) Cheers! Charlie

Sun's Virtual box

"Virtual box runs really fast in puppy compared to any other environment tested. I posted the kernel part in the forum, and listed the needed dot.pets a lot to download but while worth it in my view. puppy runs windowsXP faster than windows runs puppy.

Run ONE windows app

"I'm a farmer too, and need to run a single win app on Puppy in the stockyards, but NOTHING else. My idea is to set up a cut-down Puppy to boot off a flash drive (CF probably),start my app, and use a touch screen to input livestock data in real-time. Is this possible? Can anyone help me with this P.S I'd also like to have a custom boot screen. In short I want it to behave like an appliance, rather than a computer
