Smaller Xorg

November 20, 2009 — BarryK
I have been working on making Xorg smaller in Woof builds.

I have removed the "openGL" (and DRI drivers) component by default in Woof builds, as with Xorg 7.4 and 7.5 that has become enormous. The template was cutting it down a lot any way, now I have taken it right out. It can be added back in as a separate package later on.

I am mostly aiming the T2 build for Quirky, where I want very small size. I am experimenting with cutting Xorg down to the 'vesa' driver only (not the kdrive Xvesa, the vesa driver that is part of Xorg).

The uncompressed size of /usr/X11R7 is as follows, for my T2 build:

Before: 15.3MB
GL removed: 12.58MB
Vesa driver only: 8.02MB
