Testing Bones

December 10, 2009 — BarryK
Seems to be ok for basic usage. I have uploaded the Woof project as a Bones repository. So, to get hold of the latest Woof, do this:

1. Obtain latest 'bones' script
From Here: http://puppylinux.com/test/bones/
...gunzip it, set it executable and place at /usr/sbin.

2. Bones setup
In a Linux partition, do this:
> mkdir woof-tree
> cd woof-tree
> bones setup
...enter a local username
...enter url for woof project: http://bkhome.org/bones/woof/

3. Download Woof
> bones download

After step 3 you are ready to use Woof.

"Delayed for a few days! I was pre-occupied on the weekend, only managed to work on Bones. I'm planning now that I will be uploading a pre-alpha of Quirky. I won't be building Tpup as such.

"Hi Barry Bones installed flawlessly so I proceeded to construct an spup from the latest woof. I had done so last week so didn't need to download many packages, however the scripts could not find the following .pets.. linux_firmware_dvb-1.20.pet net_setup-20091108.pet rox_filer-2.9.0-1-p4.pet I googled all three but could only come up with the net_setup-20091108.pet on ibiblio and other mirrors. Now, here's the strange one. The 2.6.31.5 kernel pet is also awol. You can Google "linux_kernel-2.6.31.5-tickless_smp_initrd-p4.pet" and see the result for yourself. It's listed directly under "linux_kernel-2.6.30.5-tickless_smp-7-p4.pet" from nluug and other mirrors in the Google results but doesn't exist in the repos. I also looked in other possible places manually on pupplinux.com and bkhome.org. Could you point me to these missing packages please? Thanks in advance. Forum member "playdayz" had similar issues and the results show up in the Google. His post got lost in a sea of posts I guess so nobody noticed. I will email you my delta file when I'm done, not that I have fixed anything, just for you to take a look at. Cheers and thanks.

"01micko, I'm uploading those pets right now. No, it's okay, my 2.6.31.5 pet pkg is alright for any puplet. Because one of the Quirky ideas is to have everything inside the kernel, the kernel has to be recompiled by the '4quirkybuild' script after '3builddistro' has run. This creates another kernel. But the original kernel in the pet pkg is fine for normal puppy builds.
