Quirky 0.0.3 uploaded

January 05, 2010 — BarryK
The latest experimental Quirky is available at ibiblio.org:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/quirky/quirky-003/

...it has just uploaded and not yet on any mirrors.

And there is a readme file:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/quirky/quirky-003/003-readme.htm

As you gather from the version number 0.0.3, this is not intended to be anything like a polished release version, or even an alpha or beta.

Have fun, play with the new ideas.

Known bug: the Ogle DVD player Stop Button in the GUI doesn't work. Gposil is working on the Ogle code for Dpup and may have resolved some issues. I just used the original code with patches from Debian.

Since there isn't a forum thread yet I just wanted to report that Quirky 003 is the first to allow the correct resolution with my onboard Intel 810 graphics. Have a great time on your vacation.....

"I get this iso after full hdd install started, but cursor with usb mouse has no reaction. xwin produces an error: line 200 modprobe command not found Quirky001 at the laptop had no problems. Quirky003 used as live-cd has no problems. Have a great time in the cool breeze.

"I have found that when going to a new version of Quirky, that you need to start fresh. It does not play well with anything that is from an earlier Quirky. If you remove any saved Quirky sfs files or hard drive installs and start fresh, allot of the problems that you are having will not happen. Barry: do not know if this should have to be done, but I have had much better luck getting things to work, by doing a clean fresh install, with each new Quirky.

"Yeah, each of these Quirky builds is so different, that it is better to start fresh each time. I'll only start paying attention to upgradeability when/if Quirky gets to alpha or beta status.

"Hi Barry, when using say puppy from series 3-4 on my 19"LCD monitor I just select 1024x768, and thats it, earlier 2 series I had to run test and then select "generic drivers", but on Quirky3 I had to run test like 3 times, before it worked and didn't offer generic drivers. I also read the Xerrs error report and this is what was in it. (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" (EE) Failed to load module "xtrap" (module does not exist, 0) xf86TokenToOptinfo: table is NULL ls: cannot access /root/.pup_event: No such file or directory /usr/bin/jwm killall: freememapplet: no process killed asapm: open_apm_device_file: The file does not exist. asapm: Neither ACPI nor APM are available! pnmscale: reducing by 2 gives scale factor of 0.500000.
