Fbpanel 6.0...groan

March 30, 2010 — BarryK
I have just tried to compile version 6.0:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/fbpanel/files/

I did this:

# ./configure --build=i486-t2-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --disable-debug

The configuration is totally screwed up, can't find any header files. Anyone game to figure this one out?

lxpanel
Username: kirk
"If you want to try lxpanel here's the source of an older/stable version patched for puppy: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fatdog/source/other/lxpanel-0.3.8.1p2.tar.bz2 And here's a binary tar ball that you might want for the configuration. The binaries in there are old, you'll want to replace them. : http://puppylinux.asia/tpp/kirk/openbox-lxpanel/lxpanel-0.3.8.1-openbox-3.4.7.2.tar.bz2 Lxpanel is kind of fragile, if you misconfigure something it just segfaults.

lxpanel vs..

"It's doable (and works well with other wms, mostly) - about the only reservation is a somewhat 'clunky' looking pager compared to jwm's and finicky global options. Good match for openbox if the gtk's are in harmony. Drat, just when I got the older version of lx' nice'n'comfy (but people are gonna insist on having their menus updated for sure) :)

Fluxbox?

"Fluxbox has it's own builtin taskbar / pager / systray /slit and you can also add rarsa's xdg menu generator for it for refreshing menus the only thing is that it doesn't have actual menu button on taskbar so it remains right click on deskie to bring it up (or could be configured left click probably) Plus if you have some of those panels panel has one menu and openbox another that are different. bmpanel is also interesting (themable) but it lacks features
