Ayttm rollback

April 25, 2010 — BarryK
Quirky testers have reported that Ayttm 0.6.2 crashes at startup, for non-English locale:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=53142

Currently the guy who is most active developing Ayttm is Siddhesh, however the Enchant patch was submitted by Caolan McNamara:

http://ayttm.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=ayttm/ayttm;a=summary

What I have done is clicked the "snapshot" link on February 14, 2010, the commit just prior to Caolan's Enchant commit. I have compiled this and it will be in the next Quirky and Wary. For the record, this is how I configured it:

# ./gen

# ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --build=i486-t2-linux-gnu --disable-esd --disable-arts --enable-posix-dlopen --enable-webcam --enable-lj
# make
# new2dir make install

Of course, we really need to get this problem with Enchant fixed. Is there anyone reading this, who has an interest in Ayttm, who would like to volunteer to contact Caolan and explain the problem and request it to be fixed?

Note that most Puppy builds have Enchant, but 4.3.1, Quirky and Wary only have ispell (comes with Abiword), not aspell or any other *spell -- which Enchant recognises -- it does work, as Abiword uses Enchant.

I've already contacted Siddhesh and he told me that he would look for a fix. I also asked him whether I should contact someone else and he told me that he will look at it and if needed he will contact the enchant library developers. Anyway cause I see that he hasn't fixed it yet, I will contact him and ask him whether there is any progress."25 Apr 2010, 18:57"01532"94.66.153.209'mozilla enchant & hunspell"technosaurus"since seamonkey-2.x and firefox-3.x can use system hunspell, I am including it in 4.4... this also means that the dictionaries from mozilla can be shared by symlinking into the enchant directory ... so we get a better spelling dictionary at zero cost"26 Apr 2010, 8:29"01532"96.13.23.176'Fixed"siddheshp"Ah, sorry about the pain. I got really busy and completely forgot about the bug Michalis reported to me. I have committed a fix in the repository now."27 Apr 2010, 3:15"01532"115.242.127.80'
