Puppeee distro

April 21, 2010 — BarryK
Jemimah's Puppeee, targeting the EeePC netbook, is continuing with very rapid development.

The main thing about Puppeee is the incredible amount of innovative ideas that have gone into it. There is a lot of thinking "outside the box". Also, jemimah is a professional programmer and it shows -- well, I presume she is, the level of coding and ready adaptation to and mastery of a variety of different languages and libraries is very impressive.

It's great to have "young blood" taking a pup-derivative to new heights. And yes, Puppeee is planned to become a distro registered at Distrowatch -- well, that is a recent intention, likely to happen.

Puppeee is at beta4, find out more:

Thanks, Barry. To more "young blood" out there, Jemimah says, "Puppeee is looking for a few talented developers to join the team." New puppeee web: puppeee.com

"System administration pays the bills - programming is a hobby. :D Moving forward, my near-term plan for after Puppeee is released is to release Fluppy, which will be Puppeee with the Eee-specific stuff removed and with a more general netbook kernel. The trouble with trying to support netbooks is that it's a moving target - so I need all the help I can get on kernel development and drivers. There's a limit to how many netbooks I can buy for testing purposes. :)

Which Netbooks run Puppeee?

"I have always assumed that Puppeee was a build specific to the EeePC and that other makes from HP, Acer et al weren't suitable. But Jemimah's posting hints that others could be OK. If it is the case that any Atom-based Netbook can run Puppeee then giving that fact some publicity (via Puppylinux.org, perhaps) might yield more users and testers. Username: 23 Apr 2010, 6:22
