Wary Puppy 019

September 20, 2010 — BarryK
"Wary" is Quirky's sister. They are both built from source compiled in T2, and have all the same packages, except for one significant difference: Quirky uses Xorg 7.5+, Wary uses Xorg 7.3+ (the '+' means somewhat enhanced beyond the official release versions).

So, they should perform pretty much the same. However, Wary might be better on older video hardware.

Get Wary from here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/quirky/wary-019/

Known bugs:

1. The menu in the Fbpanel tray disappears to quickly. The author of Fbpanel is investigating it.
2. Blinky, the tray network monitor, failed to appear first-go on one test PC, but did appear on subsequent boots.

EDIT:
Oh, I forgot to mention it before, meant to. Thanks to stu90 for the great desktop background image!

Ok for Toshiba Tecra 8000

"Works for Toshiba Tecra 8000 out of the box. Video driver: neomagic, 1024x768x24. With SM2.04, Internet is slow compared to 431. I think SM2 is too heavyweight for Wary. (SM1 not supported... Opera10.50? In contrast, streaming video/audio is OK (except mms). Excellent full-screen TV. Networking thru rt73 USB wifi stick. Unfortunately, Wary does not store the settings, shall be configured each time (OK in 431). (I reported frozen black screen under VMware, which still exist)
