ALSA Wizard fixed

October 15, 2010 — BarryK
Wary 0.9 testers have reported sound coming default muted, and they have to tick a checkbox in the mixer.

Sound is not initially muted for me, but when I ran the ALSA Sound Wizard it became muted when it was supposed to play the test sound.

I think that I have fixed both problems... maybe.

Then I had a good look at the ALSA Wizard, which is script /usr/sbin/alsaconf, launched via /uar/sbin/alsawizard.

I fixed a couple of things, but most importantly have given it a nice GUI using Xdialog.

Oh yes, most important. Rerwin, if you read this, note that I modified /usr/sbin/alsaconf to read and write /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf. I did not use the name 'alias-sound_cards.conf' as the Wizard might write more than just alias info, such as module load options. After running the Wizard, this is what I have in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf:
# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF version 1.0.23 --- alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
"adi, You probably have to turn it on. The next Wary will have Retrovol mixer back, which makes things easier.
