Kernel 2.6.34.7 compiled

October 15, 2010 — BarryK
I plan to build the next release of Wary with this kernel, for comparison with the 2.6.35.7 kernel used in Wary 0.9.

I have uploaded all the sources, plus the source .sfs file:

Us#er#na#me: pu#pp#y Pa#ss#wo#rd: li#nu#x

I was able to compile all three of the agrsm modem drivers that rerwin has supplied.

I will be adding some more drivers. Probably the Broadcom STA driver.

Note that I compiled Alsa drivers 1.0.23 with this kernel. Also the latest Aufs 2.1 from git Sept 20.

More Drivers

"Hello Barry K, Load it up good with Broadcom Drivers and with as many Driver's you can find making Wary connect to the internet on more hardware than any other Distro. How small could Wary get if it didn't have to many apps but maximum drivers for video, internet, sound etc etc. A kind of meanpup Wary release. Just add your own apps afterwards.

"Be careful with the Broadcom proprietary driver. As we have discussed ad nauseum on the forum, this driver competes with the ssb module. And if the ssb module is included in the initrd I understand that a modules-preference setting will not work at bootup, making it necessary to unload the ssb module after bootup before the proprietary driver can load. And the opensource b43 driver should work OK in modern kernels, anyway ... assuming the correct version of firmware is installed - http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=448464#448464

"I'm sure John Biles is correct. Nothing like a missing driver to turn off an incomer. Notwithstanding, a simple message advising HW detected and where/how to install the necessary driver(s) - which is no more than that other OS does. Further testing of both Waries suggests that older kit works better than new. That's great news. Maybe a version for everybody specifically aiming to save the planet. Maybe leave out US keyboard and localisation to discourage them...
