"Nice, Kirk! Another great quote on running as root: >> But we log in as root for convenience and in recognition that your personal files are just as important as system files, in fact much more important.

Adding SAMBA server to FATDOG

"I had the luxury of working with Kirk to run FULL-SAMBA on FATDOG. He built the PET and I tested and posted how to do this. This server has excellent response times when serving files and folders out to network users. 1. His 64bit PET is at FATDOG-SAMBA. 2. One of the console logs shows accomplishments 3. Simple Setup Instructions helps anyone. With this, The Puppy community now has a 64bit system that is as full-function as ANY Microsoft 64bit implementation. It networks with any Windows, Unix, and Linux distros. And it will do EVERYTHING (except AD) the 2008 server does without spending the $1000s (In a way, ...see this as a Christmas present from Kirk. Here's a $1000+...Happy Holidays) Great work all in all. Thanks again goes to Kirk for his great effort. THANKS!!!
