Intel iwlwifi wireless firmware

October 26, 2011 — BarryK
Thanks to tempestuous who has provided extra firmware for the Intel iwlagn/iwlwifi wireless network chips:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70736&start=255

I have put this into Woof, at kernel-skeleton/usr/lib/all-firmware/iwlwifi.tar.gz.

I am currently running Wary, with 2.6.32.45 kernel. Running "modinfo iwlwifi":

firmware: iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode

firmware: iwlwifi-5150-2.ucode
firmware: iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode
firmware: iwlwifi-6050-4.ucode
firmware: iwlwifi-6000-4.ucode

Tempestuous has supplied those, except for 'iwlwifi-6050-4.ucode' -- he has supplied 'iwlwifi-6050-5.ucode' -- gee, I wonder if a symlink would work?

I want the firmware tarballs in Woof to work for all kernels from 2.6.32 to latest. But, this iwlwifi tarball is becoming a monster.

Careful, the correct firmware is determined by the particular version of iwlagn driver in different kernels. I've read that sym-linking different firmware revisions will fail. For the earlier kernel in Wary you need the iwlagn-firmware update I posted for Lucid 5.1-5.2.8, here - http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=497421#497421 Yes, that will get you the "4" revision of firmware. Please note that this package is a true "update" - it just adds to Puppy's existing collection of Intel wifi firmware. For future releases you should consider repackaging the expanded collection of firmware as /lib/modules/all-firmware/iwlwifi.tar.gz
