Hi Barry, Have you found gold, meteorites, skylab yet? :) I don't know if this is fixed or not, but apparently Ubuntu packagers are rather sloppy. They leave all sorts of permissions and ownerships on directories and the packaging system does not seem to filter it out. Consequently, installing random (even "official") .debs can be very hazardous to a puppy system using dpkg-deb. I think runt21 (macpup dev) came up with a fix by unpacking in a sandbox then merging with the system. Just thought I'd mention it while your on PPM. Hope you find a chunk of Skylab.

"Barry, this looks promising: http://www.politreco.com/2011/12/announce-kmod-1/ It should enable things like udev to avoid starting all the many modprobe instances and speed things up.

"There are many variants of 'vercmp'. The Puppy one is inside Woof, in woof-code/boot/vercmp.c, binary in woof-code/boot/initrd-tree0/bin. It gets built with every Woof-built Puppy.
