I was wondering if the contents of the SD image could be provided as a tarball. This would allow different size cards to be used and files to be examined/modified easier without copying to a card. Thx

"Grumpyoldgit, You haven't looked properly, 'dd' is used. .xz is the latest compression type, much smaller than .gz or .bz2 or zip. The 'unxz' utility decompresses it, and it is then piped to 'dd' -- the "|" is the pipe operator, which means that the output of the unxz operation becomes the input to dd.

sap6: auto set date/time
Username: BarryK
"Here is another one for the to-do list. Sap6 currently does not set date/time, you have to do it manually. We need automatic setting when there is an Internet connection. We do have a PET package that does this. Anyone want to try that? If it works ok, I will include it in the next build.

"I probably should mention, for those who have an RP or are waiting on one, not to get your hopes too high with regard to the usb interface. Yeah, sap6 has heaps of drivers and software for printers, scanner, digital cameras, etc., but the usb interfacing of the RP is broken, at least that has been my experience so far. I don't know whether it is a hardware or software problem, or both. I was only able to get hotplugging of a usb Flash pen drive to work once, and that seems to have been a fluke. Perhaps others have had more success. I have wondered whether the 5v power tracks on the printed circuit board are too thin for the current surges, or the polyfuses are kicking in too soon or are too high resistance. Just guessing, I don't know. So, this board is not for general purpose computing. For usb that "just works", go for something like the Mele board -- which I will be getting back onto very soon. On a positive note, the RP actually is quite perky running Puppy, quite surprising. If users can get usb keyboard and usb hub that works properly, that would be great.

"I don't think it's a hardware problem, because with Raspbmc the auto detection of usb sticks and usb hds works flawless. With arch linux I've had problems, only 1 of 3 usb sticks was detected (posted here, last paragraph: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=631076#631076).Will test later with Gentoo. Rolf

"Sorry, I've forgotten to say Thank You for sap6. I appreciate it very much and I feel much more familiar with it than with all the other distros. I really hope you'll stay a little bit longer with the RaspPi. Thank you again, Rolf

Chromium on RP

"As you guys have reported, Chromium works very well. Remarkably fast, about 6 seconds to startup and very responsive. This is better than I had expected for the RP. The next upload of sap6 will have Chromium instead of Links.
