'cnxsoft' very busy guy

August 04, 2012 — BarryK
I only know him (or her) as 'cnxsoft'. I often look at his site:

http://www.cnx-software.com/

If your addiction to ARM boards requires you to get a regular hit on the latest developments, this is the place to go

There is something new posted everyday. 'cnxsoft' is keeping up a very intense schedule, plus he finds out about all kinds of things, garnered from the remotest corners of the Internet.

In particular, there is a lot of info about the Allwinner A10 boards, including tutorials and download links.

Barry, I made a repository of x86_64 packages, all built on my own distro, which uses Slackware 13.37 binary packages. It already has many of the packages in pet_packages-common and some extras of Slacko (e.g alsaequal). There are no static binaries - I think the x86 initramfs contents could be used for 64-bit Woof builds, too - besides these binaries, there's no need for static compilations in Puppy - correct me if I'm wrong. All packages were built automatically, using roar-ng - since it's 64-bit ready, I want to use it to port Slacko (which is 100% binary compatible) to x86_64 as the first step. Then, we'll be able to bootstrap another Puppy from it, this time it will be self-hosting. At the moment, it should be possible to build a barebones, 64-bit Slacko with it. The kernel from my distro can be used, but it has Aufs built-in, so the init script must be modified a little. I haven't tried this yet, because I want to have a more complete selection of packages before I go for it. Next weekend, I want to rebuild Slacko 5.3.3 with a 64-bit kernel (yes, a 32-bit distro with a 64-bit kernel - I did this with Lucid, many times), so Woof can chroot into 64-bit systems. I'll use this hybrid monster to build a "native" 64-bit Puppy, with Woof. By the way, your sources repository misses some packages: 915resolution, getdir and mut2. I guess there are more missing ones - I haven't tried to build all of them.

"Iguleder, Thanks for the info. The 915resolution source is here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32462 I have uploaded it to my sources repo: http://bkhome.org/sources/alphabetical/9/ I don't know where the source is for getdir, and I don't know if it is used anywhere. I think that MU used it back in 2006 for some of his applications. I don't have it in any of the ARM builds, and haven't missed it. So, for consistency I will take it out of the latest Wary/Racy builds that I am currently working on. Mut2 is also very old, and I don't know if it even works properly anymore. It was developed years ago by Forum member Jesse, who also developed our 'elspci' and 'puppyinputdetect'. We do have the sources for those last two and still use them. I don't have Mut2 in any of my Puppy builds.

"I have uploaded some more sources to my repo: dpkg 1.16.4.3 gif2lss 0.4 seamonkey 2.0.14 xwininfo 1.1.2 Note, gif2lss is used in Woof, in boot/boot-dialog.

"I'm a "he". I have time for that because that's the main thing I do, I'm semi-retired in some ways. I've received the ODROID-X as well, so more things to write about.
