Macpup 529

August 19, 2012 — BarryK
I have just seen this on, Macpup 529:

I knew about Macpup, but I didn't know the guys (runtt21 and prit) have based the latest on the Woof-built Precise Puppy 5.2.60 (beta2), which I announced awhile back:

Hmmm, that was June 6. After that I was absorbed by the ARM boards. Well, now I'm "back" so there is going to be a beta3 soon.

It is good to see the Macpup initiative. if they stay synced with latest Woof, they will be able to incorporate the significant improvements that I have recently done for package categories and icons -- though I do need to tidy it up over the next few days, then will (or rather plan to) build beta3 and upload latest Woof.

"Barry, it certainly is good to have you "back" to woof it up for puppy prime but please don't forget about our beloved MeLE. With everything you have learned about ARM and the Pi, it would be awesome to see your puppy for MeLE taken to the next level. Maybe a break from ARM will inspire you. Thanks for all you do. JW

"I would think that ARMv7+ machines could be a very interesting target for Puppy down the road. However, the fragmentation of the market (regarding CPU version, video, audio, wifi, etc drivers) and the lack of touch optimization (the bulk of the ARM market) for puppy, lays a long road ahead if it is to be brought to the x86 puppy standards. On the other hand an UbuntuLTS-compatible puppy with the support that playdayz (and the community) provided for Lucid, is sure to spark renewed interest to people beyond the puppy enthusiasts. In short, glad to see you back to x86 and Precise(-ous :-) Puppy in particular.

x86 for tablets

"intels x86 for tablets is due out very soon so yes perhaps arm is a lot of finicky work that will soon be redundant or not absolutely needed. tried the first two raspis on my tablet and it refused to see the sdcard as bootable. didnt try the last one but no one else reported it as a go on tablet that i read, so i assume others failed as well.

Lots new CPUs technology coming at us

"Just left a store where I was reviewing the behavior of a tablet with a Tegra processor. Last night read a report on some of the latest processors that OS vendors are already testing. Our world as we have known it is changing as there are going to be sweeping reforms in our daily lives. This is NOT new NEWS to any of us, but, in looking a creditable reports from vendors to OS manufacturers, you don't need to be Einstein or a Swami to see where the "Interface Device(s)" are headed. Looking forward
