Precise Puppy beta5

September 04, 2012 — BarryK
Beta4 (5.2.73) was released recently, see blog post:
http://bkhome.org/archive/blog2/201208/precise-puppy-5273-beta4.html

Read my blog for reports on changes since then. Beta5 is now out, and I have assigned it as version 5.3.91, as I intend the final release will be 5.4. Summary of the recent versions:

I have been working on the Puppy Package Manager (PPM) the last few days, fixing some things. I fixed a chronic speed problem. There is another issue, the final "success" window when install a lot of packages at once, can be too high for the screen -- needs a vertical scrollbar -- I might do that tonight.

This pup is looking good!

Note, built with 3.2.28 PAE kernel. I plan to build a non-PAE version later.

Re PPM too wide

"Ok, I fixed that. I also fixed the height of the final "success" window. There is an issue with some deps getting missed. I am testing with installing VLC. I think that I know the cause, will work on that later today. I will also upload the fixed scripts.

Puppy save file

"I wish there would be option to immediate delete save file, (no trash cane). Puppy save file is usually very big and can not fit into trash cane, when I install new beta, I wont to delete this file. Should be either utility to delete it, or option (to delete) in resize save file.

Seamonkey

"Hi Barry, I really appreciate your great work on this uniquoe distro. I just wonder why Beta 5 still contains seamonkey version 2.9.1. The latest release (28 Aug) is 2.12. Since this update seems to be mandatory because of security reasons, it would be great if the up-to-date version was included in Puppy 5.4. Thank you!

"Barry, there has been some discovery about HDMI in Puppy that you may want to understand, too. I do remember you mentioning HDMI in something(s) you've done in the past. Here to help
