Probably tonight. Gotta get rerwin's latest, and will check a few other things, then likely build Precise 5.5beta.

"GOOD LUCK WITH THE BUILD Also, where can I find the latest categories.dat please? thanks

"It's in Woof, in /woof-code/rootfs-skeleton/usr/local/petget/

'categories.dat' bug
Username: 01micko
"In slacko there are a couple of bugs with categories.dat. 1. Samba is in BuildingBlock, moved to Network (I have a simple setup gui and it keeps getting ignored completely) 2. Slackware's seamonkey ends up in Network, dunno what to do there, it has Network in the original .desktop file. Also, going to try module-init-tools, compiled it in my slackware-14.0 install from slackware-13.37 source and patches. Gotta get back about the "BUG" soon too.. wont have much time until the week end.

"01micko, Re the "bugs": Could you tell me more about your samba gui -- is there a PET that I can download? SeaMonkey package... yes, that is a problem. If the .desktop file has a valid entry for the category, it doesn't get changed. Even though categories.dat has it as "Internet;browser". 'find_cat' will put "Internet;browser" into the Puppy pkg db entry for SeaMonkey, so at least it will show up in the right place in the PPM. I did think that 3builddistro and the ppm could decide that the category field in the pup pkg db entry is better than that in the desktop file, and change it, but haven't implemented that. The problem is that find_cat is still not good enough, so it might assign a category that is actually worse than that in the .desktop file. ...but, I'll think about it. I have thought about it, I think that I know how to improve it.

samb-tng + yassm frontend
Username: sc0ttman
"I made a very simple frontend for YASSM and samba-TNG, could easily be adapted to full samba .. 01mickos frontend is probably much better and more what you need, but just in case its of any use: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=651164#651164

Re categories.dat again

"No, my memory is faulty. I did implement what I was posted above, that I was thinking about doing. This applies to script 2createpackages in Woof, and installpkg.sh in the PPM. If an exact match is found in categories.dat (but not from the description keywords fallback), then the the "Categories=" entry in the .desktop file is set to match it. So, in the case of seamonkey, a match is found in categories.dat, "Internet;browser", so the .desktop file is changed to: Categories=X-Internet-browser At least, this is the behaviour with recent Woof.

categories.dat yet again
Username: BarryK
"Hmmm, looking at that section of code in 2createpackages, I found a bug where it reads categories.dat. That would break detection of correct categories in some cases, for pkgs builtin to pup. I am building 5.5beta now, after a brief sanity check, will upload, also upload Woof.

samba gui
Username: 01micko
"http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-slacko14/samba-4.0.0-i486.pet ~12MB That's my samba pet, slightly cut down (no swat) with the simpla samba gui included with the DOTdesktop file. On another note, I received an email from Alex Dodson, the network admin at Aarnet Mirror.. (quote) "Hello, I am seeing lots of fail to connect to ibiblio.org again. Your mirror is one of the impacted ones. Do you have any other upstream that isn't ibiblio.org? Regards, Alex Dodson System Administrator AARNet Pty Ltd" Seems like ibiblio is in trouble yet again.

"Here are my responses to Alex Dodson from AARNet: "Hi Thanks for the info. Unfortunately ibiblio is the only "official" account we have. I don't know what we can do at the moment but the troubles with ibiblio seem ongoing. We may have to seek an alternative. Regards, Michael Amadio" (12 hours ago) AND "Dear Alex, On further investigation it seems that nluug is catching up fine, <ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux> and <ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/quirky> . I just checked the timestamps. These are usually only a few hours behind ibiblio when I upload anything. Would it be better if those urls were rsync'd ? I also notice that Internode <http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/puppylinux/> has a similar timestamp to Aarnet. Is this a government policy issue? Note that quirky is not mirrored by Internode. Thanks very much for your concern with this issue. Regards, Michael Amadio" (2 minutes ago)

Re samba gui
Username: BarryK
"01micko, Yeah, that is a problem. categories.dat has 'samba' as BuildingBlock, which is probably as it should be. As you have a modified samba with your own gui, perhaps you should give the PET a different name, as it really is no longer the original samba. I don't know, "samba_with_gui", or whatever name you like.

"I want to upload Precise 5.5beta, but I can't login. I may have to upload to bkhome.org.

Uploading to puppylinux.com
Username: BarryK
"OK, I am uploading Precise 5.5beta to puppylinux.com, but eta is 4.5 hours from now. With ibiblio, I only upload the .delta files, then I run a little script that generates the full files, however that requires a previous version of precise to be already uploaded, which I don't have on puppylinux.com -- so, have to upload the full files. Uploading at 30KB/sec, pretty good. My Vodafone 3G connection is very good, plus puppylinux.com is much faster than ibiblio.org.
