"boot from manual frugal to sdcard. vesa loaded at 800x600. problem with exit to prompt gives yellow screen which needs ctrl+alt+del or backspace to reboot from. so cant do xorgwizard things. pmusic plays mp3. wifi, portable opera, mplayer all ok. touchpad tap switched off by default. flsync switches it on ok. used pprocess to stop pmusic.

kernel

"Is Racy going yo have the 3.8 kernel? (I guess this will require recompiling some drivers) I just hit an: "lpc_ich: Resource conflict(s) found affecting gpio_ich" bug that freezes booting, which apparently exist in 3.5+ kernels. precise-5.4.91-k3.8rc7-nopae also has this problem, so I was wondering. BTW is the Racy 3.8 kernel compile with the Wary/Racy T2 tool chain?

jwm change
Username: scsijon
"Something to deal with I think. I don't know how many scripts we have that need changing. If you are 'doing' a fixmenus when rebuilding the menu after adding / removing an application package, apparently you should actually be using jwm -reload not jwm -restart.

Re 3.8 for Racy
Username: BarryK
"mavrothal, Yes, unless feedback reveals any showstoppers, I intend to ship Racy 5.5 with the 3.8.0 kernel. Mostly 'cos I want f2fs to play with. I recompiled it in Wary 5.1.2 -- as I had that as a full installation on one of my laptop partitions. The source is online. The .config is from pemasu, has more drivers than my previous 3.8 compile. My sources repo: http://bkhome.org/sources/kernel-3.8.0/wary/

jwm -reload
Username: BarryK
"scsijon, JWM has this feature for sometime. All Woof scripts test the version of jwm and use -reload if appropriate. As nobody will be using the older jwm's before -reload was introduced, can probably remove that version check.

Racy kernel
Username: BarryK
"Or maybe not. Perhaps I should release Racy 5.5 with same kernel as in 5.3. This will ensure minimum surprises. I am going to build a Quirky, might reserve 3.8 for that. Stay tuned.

intel drivers etc
Username: scsijon
"just got reminded that the intel opensource 'stuff' lives here, 01.org/linuxgraphics and is suppose to be up to date. @barryK, the jwm message was just a check in case you had missed the change and it wasn't being used. Also if you use jwm-restart inappropriately, jwm increases by about 1meg in size each time. It was also to let others know. Also v692 will not appear, I have a problematic bug for joe with it, i'm afraid!

3.0 kernel
Username: mavrothal
"All I can say in support of kernel 3.0 for Racy is that swapping the 3.8 kernel with the 3.0.25 from Racy 5.3.90, provides a functional 5.4.91 system in my case (both updating and fresh installing), and that the "long term support" kernel 3.0 is now at point version 38. Quirky on the other hand has been "quiet" for a long time :-D

"The current mainline 3.0 version is 66 and not 38 as I wrote above. (Sorry for the "salami" pots)

Re remasterpup2 crashing

"A couple of remasterpup2 testers have reported that it crashes immediately after the first window. Can you please read this post, and provide the requested info: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=688411#688411 That info should enable me to fix it, I think.

abispell dictionaries

Re Abispell dictionaries

"don570, Note that apps in Puppy, including SeaMonkey and Abiword, are designed to use Hunspell dictionaries. The English hunspell dictionary is included in all puppies. It can be used as a template for creating dictionaries for any other language, download it from here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_packages-noarch/hunspell-en-us-2.pet Open it up and examine contents: # tar -zxf hunspell-en-us-2.pet (ignore error message) Hunspell dictionaries for other languages can be obtained from Debian or Ubuntu, ex: http://packages.ubuntu.com/ ...and do a search for "hunspell". DEB packages can be opened up, um, I think the 'undeb' utility will do it. Then, PETs can be created for various languages. The hunspell dictionary could also be put into langpack PETs -- note to our language translators!
