Update on 4.1 schedule

I'm doing some testing tonight. As I'm currently working all day, I can only put in 2 - 3 hours in the evening. I anticipate uploading 4.1rc tomorrow evening (about 24 hours from now).

Note that with 4.1beta, everything is frozen except for fixing bugs. No upgrades of packages, unless they have a fix of a critical bug.

So, when I get home from work tomorrow evening, I will check the forum and my blog, in case anyone has posted some critical bugfix, then I'll build 4.1rc, do a bit of a test of it, then upload it.
Probably.

Regarding upgrades of packages, including Xorg 7.4, ALSA, SANE, XINE, etc. ... well, perhaps that will be done for 4.2!

dell inspiron 1526- no boot
on dell inspiron 1526 laptop (AMD TL-60,2gram) puppy beta 4.1 (ver 408)does not boot . it hangs up after outputimg on screen:
Unlzmaing linux...done
Booting the kernel.

It hangs exactly same manner with HD frugal instal,CD boot or USBflash boot (tested frugal manual install and USB created with universal instaler ---observation univ.inst has erased the usbflash even I said option 'no'...)

on same hardware puppy alpha 6 (ver 406) booted ok from Hd frugal install

408 works ok on my old desktop computer (AMD athlon 1.5Ghz,1Gram)

WPA at Last !!!
There is much rejoicing here, Barry. 4.1 Beta is the first with the new kernel to get WPA encryption working for me. All previous attempts have failed even with Tempestuous' best efforts. So whether it's the latest Network Wizard, or something else, but the iwl3945 module worked OK right out of the box! Hurrah!

Xorg 7.4 and XServer 1.5.1 have been released
Finally,Xorg 7.4 and XServer 1.5.1 have been released today.

Barry,do you have time to put this into into 4.1 final? (or make some sort of a 'service pack' after 4.1) This will make many Puppy users happy.

HardInfo
HardInfo is reporting the incorrect version of Puppy Linux. When using 408, HardInfo reports it as 'Puppy Linux 0.40'.

Slow booting
ferikenagy repoorted on his dell inspiron that it was hanging at booting the kernel, i have found the same on my dell latitude D820 and dell latitude LS, however it is not every time, and if left for long enough it will kick into life and carry on booting. the same also occurs at the next stage (loading relevant modules) but is not nearly as frequent. this did not happen in earlier releases but does in 408 (standard)

maybe it is a problem with only dells?

Posting here
I hate to play blog "copper" here but this is not the time or the place for bug reports or feature requests. Barry is presently working full-time while trying to get 4.1 RC1 posted. The best way we can support him in this effort is to be patient. When Barry posts RC1, our job will be to test it for "show stoppers", problems too serious to leave for correction in v4.2. Features will not be added, nor applications updated.

Please post RC1 related issues where ever Barry directs (there will no doubt be an RC1 forum topic). Thanks.

PCMCIA USB 2.0 Works!
Just tested 4.1beta on my old Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 challenging the PCMCIA.

I stuffed a dual USB 2.0 adapter in one slot and a combo modem/nic in the other and it handled them both fine!

Congrats again!

915resolution
Barry, a last-minute fix:
915resolution needs to be updated to support a new device id for an Intel GMA3100/G33 graphics chip.
Updated binary and source code just added here -
