This is something that two or three people have been reminding me about for ages. I have finally decided to put the 'xdelta3' utility into Puppy by default.

There are many people on dialup who would like to play with more puppies but baulk at the 100MB download. Depending on the quality of the telephone line, they could be looking at several hours to download, with the continous worry of loosing the connection.

If I make one of my Woof-builds available in five or six pieces, as I have done with Jaunty Puppy alpha8 -- in five files each about 22MB -- then this large download only needs to be done once. After that, I can provide builds that are .delta files. For example, I just did a test, I created a .delta file of Jaunty Puppy alpha6 and alpha7, and it was just 1.7MB.

thank you BK!
Indeed this is terrific news for those of us with a slower conn and a boon to simple testers - even better with the mimetype in ROX (although the cl was/is fairly straightforward for the procedure). Looking forward to 'patching' upup-471 to alpha9 retro  (a retro alpha!)
