cdrkit_cut

417 has 'cdrkit_cut' with a cutdown selection of the utilities from the cdrkit package. The two utilities mkisofs and cdrecord are now provided by xorriso.

I am thinking that cdrkit_cut could be cut further. These are the utilities currently in it:

readcd (readom) 131KB A program to read CD/DVD/BD media with CD-clone features
cdda2wav (idedax) 219KB The most evolved CD-audio extraction program with paranoia support
cdda2mp3
cdda2ogg
isodebug 106KB A program to print mkisofs debug information from media
isodump 110KB A program to dump ISO-9660 media
isoinfo 226KB A program to analyse/verify ISO/9660/Joliet/Rock-Ridge Filesystems
isovfy 111KB A program to verify the ISO-9660 structures
rscsi A Remote SCSI enabling daemon

cdda2mp3 and cdda2ogg are small scripts.

Can we dump any of these? Are any of these not needed by Pburn and the other CD/DVD rippers, authorers and burners?

re:cdrkit-cut
Pburn uses ONLY readcd and cdda2wav.

There might be more issues with Xorriso when burning audio/video compatible discs. 01micko has reported no luck to burn an audio-CD, and I fear issues for video-CD/DVD as well. I will be back home by Thursday, and will check further.

Puppy Linux mentioned at Linux Insider
A July 17th article at Linux Insider mentioned Puppy Linux. The article was titled Migrating to Linux, Part 1: Sharing a Room With Windowshttp://www.linuxinsider.com/story/Migrating-to-Linux-Part-1-Sharing-a-Room-With-Windows-67617.html

audio, video cd/dvd
Ah, yes, xorriso is a very limited substitute for cdrecord and mkisofs.

But, the author has another program called 'cdrskin' that is a more complete replacement for cdrecord.

This weekend I plan to upload the first beta of 430 and intend to have cdrskin in it.

libburnia

Hi Barry you just might want to try it out for yourself if you like, Here's the xfburn package that I made up on 4 series, Its 512kb and includes all that cdrskin stuff your trying out, plus a couple of xfce libs. Its actually a amzing size for what your getting, One day it would be nice to have xfce with thunar and just rox, I've compiled/package a few of xfce programs on 2.14X to use with Rox without xfce running, like the burner, screenshooter, mousepad(leafpad rebranded), image viewer, even the task panel.

Xfce burner based on libburnia libraries below
