I have done a little bit of work on Puppy...
I already reported a problem with hardware detection with the 126.96.36.199 kernel. This is due to the way the kernel handles uevents in kernels prior to 2.6.24.
The result is that some modules may not load, though I expect it to be ok for most people.
Anyway, I fixed it, a simple modification to /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.
Another problem is that the desktop icons can get messed up when SFS files are added or removed.
This is also fixed, needed a change in /etc/rc.d/rc.update.

detected ok here
I used that kernel on my p3, worked fine... and I converted the devx to squash 3, that worked too. It seems that kernel is good with p3s, I had trouble with 188.8.131.52 on that old girl whereas 184.108.40.206 is fine on the old k6 amd. Strange.

Yes, I've seen the problem with icons messed up.
Is there a manual fix we can do to Puppy 4.30 to amend /etc/rc.d/rc.update ?

Re: devx sfs3
There is a devx sfs3 posted on ibiblio, in the special-puppies folder.
