Barry, as you probably are aware by now, SAMBA is crippled in PUP5 and Quirky.
@efiguy offers a plausible explanation on how (and when) this probably happened.
My questions is simply;
If I were to use WOOF, what steps should I employ so that a complete SAMBA gets incorporated (at least the one that is shown in Distrowatch)?

No, I am not aware that Samba is crippled in Quirky. There has been conflicting feedback, some testers have reported it works. I think it was in the 1.1 thread, a change was suggested to get CUPS printing over Samba to work, and I followed those instructions for 1.2rc.
