pupdial_wizard_helper improved
When PupDial is run and a connection initiated, a parallel process starts, script /usr/sbin/pupdial_wizard_helper. This monitors progress of the attempted connection and if it detects success then pops up a window asking if you want to make PupDial the default connection tool and offers to run the firewall setup. But for my Agere connection the Wizard wasn't detecting the Internet success. I found the problem, the Wizard was exiting prematurely. Fixed.
The only thing that is annoying is that when someone telephones me, my Internet connection gets cut off. I have turned that feature off (call waiting?), but it turns itself back on.

*44[space] before the dialup number in the init turns off call waiting for the current (Telstra) call only. ( Optus uses #87, ). Worth trying.
