Dropping out...Username: KKTK
Can't boot new version: Searching for puppy files in computer disk drives...pup_409.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-ramdisk console... 4.05 version was working. I am booting from hdd using chain0 with one parameter PMEDIA=idehd. Additional parameter acpi=noirq is not solution for me.

"Very good thus far! Loading up all the usual apps and they seem to do great. Will know more as we go through the process. Think I like the new features as well. Another winner maybe?
PMEDIA

"Yo KKTK, I use PMEDIA=atahd for the standard version and PMEDIA=idehd for the retro version. They both load. GeoW

Which DEVX

"Which would be the appropriate DEVX to use? Would it vary depending on kernel version?

[/quote] I noticed a similar problem with one of the previous version of Puppy 4.x. The additional boot option: layerfs=aufs solved the problem.
No wireless

"See this post: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=33861 Summary: wireless (asus eee 900) works in pup 3.1 but not in 4.1 I would love to have it working again
aufs, eeepc

"Leon, aufs is the default in 4.1. Dromeno, I saw your post on the forum, but you should have looked around on the forum first, as the solution to your problem is posted 4 or 5 times in various threads, including another one that tempestuous (very patiently) responded to about the same time that you posted to the forum.
very good!

Gtkam

"Barry, Thanks to your efforts to develop the standard and the retro version. I prefer the retro because of better fonts display. Gtkam finally detect my Canon PowerShot A460 digital camera. It doesn't show any thumbnails but I can save my pictures with 'Save directory tree...' command.
SCSI scanner working
Username: dogone
"I post this here Barry, for all to see. Your enhanced scanner dialog (orange) does a proper job of it as regards SCSI devices. I clicked on "SCSI" and xsane appeared. I still have to fudge the LUN setting, but that's not Puppy's fault. Most importantly, I can access my scanner and scan at will. The Microtek E6 is still hard to beat. Thanks for the time and effort.
Missing 4.x files?
Username: PeteTX
"I am a long-time happy Puppy user, looking to upgrade to 4.x. However, I need to be able to compile drivers for my apps. In 2.17, there was a handy file called kernel-source_217.sfs that did the trick. But I have looked high and low (in ibiblio and elsewhere), and have been unable to locate this file for any of the 4.x versions. Where can I find the Kernel Src .SFS files for - * Production Puppy V4.00 * 4.1RC Retro (if different from above) * 4.1RC (with new .25 kernel) Thanks! P.S. - I just completed setting-up multi-boot (BOOT.INI/GRUB/frugal) to now include Puppy 2.17, 4.00, 4.1RC Retro, and 4.1RC (.25), plus two flavors of Windows. I am happy to report that all of the 4.x versions (even the new kernel 4.1RC) boot-up successfully on my test PC!
