Update on 4.1 schedule
September 23, 2008 —
BarryK
I'm doing some testing tonight. As I'm currently working all day, I can only put in 2 - 3 hours in the evening. I anticipate uploading 4.1rc tomorrow evening (about 24 hours from now).
Note that with 4.1beta, everything is frozen except for fixing bugs. No upgrades of packages, unless they have a fix of a critical bug.
So, when I get home from work tomorrow evening, I will check the forum and my blog, in case anyone has posted some critical bugfix, then I'll build 4.1rc, do a bit of a test of it, then upload it.
Probably.

"Finally,Xorg 7.4 and XServer 1.5.1 have been released today. Barry,do you have time to put this into into 4.1 final? (or make some sort of a 'service pack' after 4.1) This will make many Puppy users happy.

Slow booting

"ferikenagy repoorted on his dell inspiron that it was hanging at booting the kernel, i have found the same on my dell latitude D820 and dell latitude LS, however it is not every time, and if left for long enough it will kick into life and carry on booting. the same also occurs at the next stage (loading relevant modules) but is not nearly as frequent. this did not happen in earlier releases but does in 408 (standard) maybe it is a problem with only dells?

"I hate to play blog "copper" here but this is not the time or the place for bug reports or feature requests. Barry is presently working full-time while trying to get 4.1 RC1 posted. The best way we can support him in this effort is to be patient. When Barry posts RC1, our job will be to test it for "show stoppers", problems too serious to leave for correction in v4.2. Features will not be added, nor applications updated. Please post RC1 related issues where ever Barry directs (there will no doubt be an RC1 forum topic). Thanks.

"Just tested 4.1beta on my old Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 challenging the PCMCIA. I stuffed a dual USB 2.0 adapter in one slot and a combo modem/nic in the other and it handled them both fine! Congrats again! doc

"Barry, a last-minute fix: 915resolution needs to be updated to support a new device id for an Intel GMA3100/G33 graphics chip. Updated binary and source code just added here - http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32462
