wpa_supplicant

Tempestuous has compiled a more recent version of wpa_supplcant, quoting from his post in the Network Wizard thread in the forum:

Well I don't have firm answers, just suggestions.
It seems that generally the new rt73usb doesn't like hidden SSID's.
I think it's time to upgrade wpa_supplicant. The latest stable version now attached.
This package contains only the application files, and does not overwrite any configuration scripts.
I have enabled the "ipw" -D parameter for compatibility with the new Realtek rtl8180 and rtl8187 drivers. Of course, 99% of modern Linux wifi drivers use the standard "wext" -D parameter.

DON'T use this version of wpa_supplicant in versions of Puppy older than about 4.1alpha5, because this new versions lacks the "Ralink" -D parameter necessary for the old rt61 and rt73 drivers.

Network wizard and more

Hi ! I'm a very happy user of Puppy, but after 3.01 all the new network wizard aren't so good. I have a notebook Dell (a little bit old) and I use a 3Com wifi usb. With ALL new version (4.00 and beyond)there is no way ho have an automatic recognize of that device and trying with the autoload there is no way to start the network connection. Even if I try with other computers (5 in total, 3 desktop and 2 notebook) the result is the same, and let me add that there is a similar situation with other wifi interface. The 3.01 is one of the best OS I have ever tried, but the only things I would improve are: - gxine still hangs up, VLC is better; - the abiword is light but not good (please try to paste something copied from a web page) - the pdf viewer are almost unuseful (Few MB are enough to slow the reading). Please tell me where and how I have to send more data (but there is no great more things to say). Hoping to be useful, Inoxidabile

Explain what version of Puppy it works on, what kernel module gets loaded, and what error messages or incorrect information you get when you run the Wizard.
