Debian locale progress

Continuing from my previous post...
I rebuilt Lenny Pup without the 'belocs' package. Installed to a USB stick and running it right now.
Situation much improved. Now there are no error messages about reverting to C locale in /tmp/xerrs.log.
One strange thing though, I started leapad from a terminal, fine. Fotoxx, mtPaint, fine. But ran 'notecase' and it still gives the error:
(notecase:20430): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Weird.
Also, there are mysterious error messages at bootup, shown in /tmp/bootsysinit.log:
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_COLLATE to default locale: No such file or directory
Apart from these mysterious errors, locale setting now seems to be working.
Perhaps most of the locale error reports posted on the Internet by Debian/Ubuntu users are due to getting the standard glibc locale and the belocs locale packages intermixed.
