Getting ready for alpha5

I am getting alpha5 ready, and fixed a couple of bugs reported in alpha4.
No scrollwheel. This was because the mouse protocol in /etc/X11/xorg.conf was set to "auto". I found that it had to be set to "IMPS/2". I did not change xorgwizard, instead made a change in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit to finally dump /dev/psaux and use /dev/input/mice for both USB and PS/2 mice -- the flow-on effect causes xorgwizard to choose "IMPS/2" protocol for both types.
Clicking on a package to install it, the menu did not update. Fixed.
Someone reported that Pmount cannot mount partitions. Works fine for me.
I think perhaps some people are not reporting the full conditions. In particular, they may have upgraded a previous pup_save file, in which case who knows it could be anything that caused the bug.

"Fresh boot of upup-461 (pfix=ram) Tried to use my gprs modem -- when the connect script ran pppd failed b/c libpcap was not available. Works fine after libpcap is d/l from the repository. BTW -- the package search feature is wonderful! There seem to be a few other missing dependencies: # xdpyinfo xdpyinfo: error while loading shared libraries: libXxf86dga.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory # vi xxx Segmentation fault (I can use geany for now)

"Never had an issue with the scroll wheel (Logitech USB). Xorg works like a charm (Ubuntu just doesn't get my Intel 845G to work. Not even 9.04). Looking forward to it! Cheers, Martin

"John, Thanks for your on-going support with the forum. It must be quite a burden for you, and of course you have to tolerate snipers every now and again. ...as WhoDo has discovered, being in a position of running the show. I have offered before, but again, if you need a bit of cash for the hosting let me/us know. I don't suppose those Google ads bring in much (?)
