Holiday in Melbourne

May 20, 2009 — BarryK
Recently there has been a price war amongst the airlines, as there have been too many flights and not enough bums on seats. AirAsia has recently started flying to Perth, and they had a full-page ad. free flights to Bali (a popular holiday destination in Indonesia) -- well, not free exactly, the price each way was $60 for the government and airport taxes.

I don't want to go to Bali, but Tiger Airways advertised $88 tickets Perth to Melbourne, $98 Melbourne to Perth. My daughter bought me tickets, to pop over there for a short holiday, see her (and the two dogs Vincent and April).

Man that's cheap. The airline would have to be making a loss. I spend about $60 per week on fuel for my car each week, driving about 750Km. (470 miles). Melbourne is on the other side of Australia, about ...not sure exactly, I think about 2,000Km as the plane flies. That $88 is the total price, so take away the taxes and the airline only gets about $60.

I'll only be gone for a few days, later this month. Looking forward to the break.

I decided to release another alpha, not yet a beta of Woof. This will be alpha9, and I'm not sure when, but not too far away.

"Hi Barry, If you want to compare cheap airline tickets have a look at Ryanair.com for flights in Europe to see how cheap they can be. KM for KM thy must be the cheapest in the world. Ryanair is Europe's second biggest airline in terms of passengers carried and they made more profit than any other airline last year. They only use small airports, and the turn around time is around 20 minutes. Howeve, while the tickets are cheap, you have to pay for any extras.
