Tsunamis and earthquakes

October 03, 2009 — BarryK
There have been recent posts to this blog and the forum about the typhoon in the Philippines.

Recently, like in the last few days, there have been earthquakes and a tsunami around Australia, with major damage and lost of life. The vast Australian tectonic plate is on the move. A plate in the Pacific is pushing underneath the Aussie plate, and at the other end the Aussie plate is going underneath a Eurasian continental plate. At least, that is my uneducated overview after watching the news last night.

Username: puppy
Hi,Bqrry! Thank you for your time! I am a Novice to compile the kernel in puppy. I have read all the articles about compile the kernel in your blog, And I have Build Environment by the GCC(devx_421.sfs), it is seems running regularly. I download the sources linux-2.6.30.8.tar.bz2 into /usr/src/ , tar -jxf linux-2.6.30.8.tar.bz2. then # cd /linux-2.6.30.8/ # make clean but at the end ,it is show: scripts/makefile.clean:17 /usr/src/linux-2.6.30.8/fs/aufs/makefile:No such file or directory Make [2]:***No rule to make target '/usr/src/linux-2.6.30.8/fs/aufs/Makefile' make [1] :*** [fs/aufs]Error 2 make :*** [_clean_fs] Error 2 can you tell me what I have did wrong? If I go on compile, in the end: Error LD arch/x86/boot/compressed/piggy.o ld: arch/x86/boot/compressed/vmlinux.bin.lzma:No such file or directory make [2] *** [arch/x86/boot/compressed/piggy.o] Error 1 make [1] *** [arch/x86/boot/compressed/vmlinux] Error 2 make :*** [bzImage] Error 2 I have tried for about 10 times! thank you for yourhelp!

"My docs are only intended for kernel sources that have been patched to work in Puppy, as at http://puppylinux.com/sources It seems that you are trying to use a .config file that is not a match for the source.

"the ".config" is "DOTconfig-K2.6.30.5-01SEPT09-TICKLESS-SMP" download from http://puppylinux.com/sources/kernel-2.6.30.5/ I have patched the "aufs2-kbuild.patch" "aufs2-standalone.patch" "aufs2-base.patch" but I can not understand: The: copy ./{Documentation,fs,include} files to your kernel source tree. if I don't patch only use the"DOTconfig-K2.6.30.5-01SEPT09-TICKLESS-SMP", it will Error: LD arch/x86/boot/compressed/piggy.o ld: arch/x86/boot/compressed/vmlinux.bin.lzma:No such file or directory make [2] *** [arch/x86/boot/compressed/piggy.o] Error 1 make [1] *** [arch/x86/boot/compressed/vmlinux] Error 2 make :*** [bzImage] Error 2 sorry BarryK, I have spelled wrong "Bqrry",Please forgive me! Thank you for taking the time!

"i found puppy by accident, try it and love it,since then all my systems run on it,excellent work,i'm not really deep enough about software, but i was a cad drafter since the late 80's,and been true a lot of software as a final user,so i still remember those times when the whole ram was available to run your main program, before some sinister & obscure graphic software manager appear on the market and ruin everything, when i first hear about free ware and distros i couldn't contain my joy, because one of the first super stable and most reliable systems was linux based, and puppy works like it,just waaaaasy better,so cheers up,keep up with the nice work, and soon you will get a little token of my appreciation as a donation,ok damainman

"puppy, Then I don't know what you are doing wrong. You have to follow the Aufs instructions. If that is done properly then it works. If you still can't figure it out, ask the question on the forum. That is the better place for user technical enquiries. This blog is really only intended as a place for me to report my daily activities.

"copy ./{Documentation,fs,include} files to your kernel source tree. ...you need to do what the Aufs instructions tell you to do. Maybe that instruction is too cryptic? No, it's logical enough, I did it without difficulty just from reading the instructions. Maybe you should look at my patched 2.6.30.5 source to see how the Aufs source was copied across.
