Rerwin (Richard) has posted packages for improved modem detection and management:

He has commented:
Barry and technosaurus might wait a while before integrating them, to allow users to "shake it out"
So, everyone running Puppy 4.3.1 or later variant, is invited to test these packages!

Mot VE465: connected using usbserialUsername: GreatnessguruInMI
I just now got my Motorola VE465 mobile phone connected to the Internet from Puppy Linux 431. First, I installed the pup_event... and modemprobe... PETs mentioned above. (The other wouldn't install.) Then: Plug in the USB cable. # cat /proc/bus/usb/devices "P: Vendor=22b8 ProdID=2b24 ...", "S: ...Motorola VE465" Unplug cable. # modprobe -r usb-storage usbserial # modprobe usbserial vendor=0x22b8 product=0x2b24 Plug in cable again. # cat /proc/bus/usb/devices Check for "I:... Driver=usbserial_generic". Edit /etc/wvdial.conf like so: [Dialer Defaults] Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0 [or ttyUSB1, etc.] Click on "connect" Puppy desktop icon. Click on "Internet by ... wireless modem". Click on "Test ttyUSB0" [or ttyUSB1, etc.]. It found my phone and offered to test it and set up /etc/wvdial.conf for me. I let it do so. I only changed the phone number, which for Alltel Internet access: #777 Click on "Connect to Internet". Click on "browse" Puppy desktop icon. Copy and paste this for proper credit for the above info: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/using-motorokr-z6m-as-usb-modem-669050/ That's: http://www.linuxquestions.org/ questions/ linux-newbie-8/ using-motorokr-z6m-as-usb-modem-669050/ Thanks, everyone who makes Puppy possible, Eddie Maddox
