I have upgraded to Patriot's latest Samba share browser. See forum:

Patriot has mentioned a problem in /etc/rc.d/rc.shutdown that causes a delay. The fix is to move the call to 'rc.network stop' until after the /etc/init.d service scripts are called.
Ok, I have done that in rc.shutdown -- in Woof.
