I don't know what to make of this. It seems that seven of the "leaders" have had a fight with the rest of the contributors and decided to fork the project.
New project: http://libav.org/
Ffmpeg site: http://ffmpeg.org/
Some discussion about the fork:
http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?37205-FFmpeg-is-changing-its-name-to-libav!
I guess that we will have to watch their git logs to see which one seems to be the one to choose.

"Damn, I thought maybe Daylight savings put me in a time warp and it was 1 April. Not that it bothers me about the fork, a little competition never hurt, but now I _may_ have to update some things for compatibility re: kernel http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_38 also xz support in the kernel image, inital ramdisk and squashfs (I wonder if they use xz's -e option for compression to save mem-load on the end user?)
