To-do asap

February 21, 2012 — BarryK
There are a couple of things that I want to work on ASAP.

1. langpacks
When you boot Wary/Racy 5.2.2.7 for the first time, you get the QuickSetup window and can choose a locale -- if you choose a non-English locale, there is a window that advises to install a "langpack" for your language, if one is available.

However, it is a bit vague. Doesn't tell you if a langpack is available, nor exactly where to get it from. I want to fix that, maybe even ask again if you want to install the langpack when you have established an Internet connection.
Note, so far we only have a Russian langpack.

For anyone else interested in creating a langpack, we have MoMananager -- please read the posts in my blog. Shinobar has mentioned an existing collection of translations, which would be a useful resource for building a Woof-compatible langpack.

2. Desktop drive icons
I will need to check this, but I have observed that it seems the desktop drive icons are getting redrawn every time X starts. This should not be happening, only when a change in the drives is detected. The drive icons are specified in /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin, and if no drive-change then the icons should appear virtually instantly on the desktop, just like the other desktop icons.

3. xkb layout fix I noticed that rodin.s has /usr/local/bin/fbxkb_select and /usr/local/bin/xkblng in his langpack_ru PET. I don't know anything about this, is this something that I should have in Woof? 4. retrovol I noticed on the Forum that pizzasgood has released a new version. I need to upgrade the PET in 'common' repo.

"5. gxmessage For internationalization purposes, the Wary/Racy builds have gxmessage, to replace xmessage. The gxmessage PET is supposed to create a symlink /usr/bin/xmessage to /usr/bin/gxmessage, however that is getting overridden, and /usr/bin/xmessage is still a symlink to /usr/X11R7/bin/xmessage. Need to fix that. You can manually fix it by doing this: # ln -snf gxmessage /usr/bin/xmessage

"This program has had this bug for a long time. When there is enough packages installed, to cause two columns of listed packages. There is always two packages selected to check dependencies. You will have one in first column list and one in second column list. You can not select just one package to check.
