I flew back from Melbourne on Thursday afternoon. At that stage, I had a tickle in my throat, urge to cough but controllable. Now it is a raging flue.
This is a "present" from Melbourne! Almost every day I was riding around in trains and trams. Difficult situation when people cough in an enclosed and crowded environment.
Anyway, I feel like sh*
I am doing the usual things, tea with lemon juice, lozenges, today I bought Irish Moss cough syrup. I read somewhere that a soak in a hot tub is beneficial, so I'll try that tonight.
Staying home as much as possible, and managing to soldier-on with Puppy development.
My Optus wireless broadband is choosing now to behave very poorly. Lots of connection timeouts, to the extent that I sometimes just give up and disconnect from the Internet.

Sorry you are unwellWest Nile?

"We have a bad problem with West Nile virus here in Texas, last week two people died in Austin from it. Cities are fog spraying for the first time since the 1950-60s.
Vicks on the feet

" Rub Vicks on your feet at night. The Camphor in it helps stop coughing. Woolies, Coles or Aldi >> generic is just as good. Rub Eucalyptus oil in the day on your chest, and rub Vicks on yourself at night... but straight to bed afterwards. The sweating from Vicks helps kill the flu symptoms. In the shower gargle with salt water, at the hottest temperature you can take. obviously don't scald yourself. Then gargle and swallow the lemon juice. More effective. Irish Moss >> old but still good. Olbas oil is good as well. I sprinkle 8-10 drops on my chest. Hold the shirt up and inhale deeply. Do it a few times a day. Don't get it near your eyes. http://www.olbas.com/olbasoil.htm Chris.
Flu article

"This is a very informative article: http://theconversation.edu.au/explainer-flu-season-2012-8210 The annual death rate in Australia is alarming! Interesting, as I took the precaution of getting the "flu shot" at the start of winter. Didn't stop this virus though -- but the doc explains the prevention rate may be 50% - 90%, dependent on the strain.
Influenza & Common Colds

"Maybe you have the latter? The annual 'flu injection for us oldies isn't suppose to affect susceptibility to colds, but I have found some beneficial synergy sometimes. Deaths amongst apparently 'healthy' individuals is usually due to 'flu. There is no formal treatment or cure available for colds, nor any in immediate prospect. Strange because they are more frequent and affect more people in their main productive years causing massive loss to economies - you'd think the capitalists would've latched on to this! Either infection, by the time symptoms are manifest, it's too late. Symptoms are the mopping up effects of the massive damage to tissue destroyed in a successful battle by the white cells & co. Keeping warm, (over?)eating and especially flushing with copious fluids will always be good advice, as well as limiting physical effort and, of course, mental stress (which consume significant body resources). You shouldn't have continued working on Puppy! The bad news for The West and N. Hemisphere is that what China & Oz suffer today is heading our way. Widespread infections by this family of virii in our sphere is marked by the return to school of out little petri dish incubators in the early Autumn after worldwide sojourns and they do unspeakable things to each other, invariably breathing over each other.

"A hot toddy usually works quite well for me. The juice of a lemon Two big teaspoons of honey A couple of shots of Irish whisky, scotch is ok too All stirred in boiling water Get into bed and drink it. The next morning after some serious sweating you should feel better. Repeat as often as you need to.
Don't mix with Joe Public

"That's what happens when you abandon sweet isolation in the fresh air Perenjori for the doubtful benefits of mixing with Joe Public in Melbourne. I hate travelling on the Underground here for that self-same reason. Is this an anti-social attitude? You bet! Bah to the General Public - keep your uneducated germs to yourself! I never was a member of that particular organisation.
epsom salts

"these salts of magnesium, added to a hot bath, or soak of feet, etc. are a real assist to body bringing its internal fluid systems into healthy state. two cups in the bath is not too much. if a night then hot as you can, soak 'til sleep beckons, swiftly as poss straight to bed. daytime also helpful. cheers, mm

"Simple measures, My daughter's school implemented enforced alcohol gel at the entrance and a little bottle in their bags... Flu dropped to a 1/4 from previous year. As for you, Barry, eat easy to digest proteins and fruits. Sleep a lot. Take care of body temperature. Someone to watch you. Take a brake. You are part of it, too. :)
Precise allows NE$TBOOTing to occur

"@Barry, here is a minor issue which surfaced for those users who have been using Netboot to boot any PCs on the LAN without it having to use its media. The only issue which aries is its need for DNSMASQ which provides uses beyond the NETBOOT use. The NETBOOT PET that JamesBond provides for 32/64bit systems use DNSMASQ to give Precise (or any PUP) the subsystem which the LAN PCs get their OS. In an effort to address the above thread, mentioned, 2 of the most experienced members suggest that this is/could be in "common" REPOs available to all PUPs. If you feel this a good approach, if would prove helpful. Here to help
