Rodin.s has a HP laptop for which the battery status tray applet does not work. He fixed it, and the fix should help others too. Forum post:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=81672&start=405
I have updated from version 2.5 to 2.6.
PETs for x86 and armv7 (5K, 6K):

http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/arm/pet_packages-armv7/powerapplet_tray-2.6-armv7.pet
I will upload the latest source of powerapplet_tray 2.6 to my sources repo soon.

GNU coreutils provides a /usr/bin/truncate binary. pet2tgz can not work with this binary because it needs you old little truncate binary. Thus pet installation fails in this setting. Would it be possible to rename your truncate to ptruncate and change pet2tgz accordingly? As far as I can see truncate is not called from any other script.

"All I can say is that does not show anywhere else besides pet2tgz, in the Woof2 tree or in Precise 5.4.3. Unless it is called by another binary.

"As far as I remember, truncate is used by PPM to strip the MD5. grep -l truncate `find /usr -type f`
