Easy version upgrade and downgrade

December 18, 2018 — BarryK

There is a new tutorial:

https://easyos.org/user/easy-version-upgrade-and-downgrade.html

There were some bugs with upgrading prior to version 0.9.14. One of them was that the previous version got deleted, so you couldn't roll back.

Another was the automatic fixing of the BOOT_SPECS file wasn't quite right, requiring a manual fix.

Looking good now, "touch wood". Hopefully, from now on, you will be able to easily upgrade an installation, as I have done in the above tutorial.

I intend to keep that installation in the Kingston SSD in the Mele, and upgrade as new versions are released. It will be the test-bed that upgrading and roll-forward/roll-back works properly.

One thing not mentioned in the above tutorial: after updating the vmlinuz, initrd and easy.sfs files, then reboot, the initial boot menu (provided by reFind or Syslinux) will still show the previous version. However, subsequent bootups will show the updated version.
