Bugs found so far in EasyOS 1.0.8

February 23, 2019 — BarryK

Will list them here, so that they don't get reported many times. No particular order:

  1. I did an upgrade of an existing installation, Easy 0.8.16 on my Mele mini-PC, using the simple upgrade method described here. No connection to Internet. Ah, that is because previous versions had NetworkManager, now removed. To change to UltraSNS, or one of the other network managers, right-click on the desktop "connect" icon and choose the ConnectWizard.
  2. When you start SeaMonkey, the home page has a link titled "How to install Easy OS on your hard drive". Click on that, it is a broken link. Reason, the URL should not have a hyphen between "easy-os". That will be fixed in the next release.
  3. The UltraSNS GUI shows a list of APs (Access Points). One person informed me that he has a hundred where he lives, so the list should be scrollable. OK, next release also. If you you do have too many APs, you could hack the script /usr/local/UltraSNS/usns if knowledgeable, or use a different network management tool (right-click on "connect" icon and choose ConnectWizard).
  4. There is an icon labeled "petget" at top of screen, that runs a package manager, with a small collection of apps. Easy already has Xine for video and audio, and Audacious for audio, which work fine, but the package collection includes MPV and VLC. Apparently, there is a problem with the dependencies of those two, missing shared libs. I will check that out.
  5. While browsing in the petget package manager, I noticed that 'pburn' CD-burner was offered. But, it is already installed, so should have been filtered out, marked as already installed. I will check that out also.

If you would like to participate in discussion about Easy, there is a thread in the Puppy Forum that I am monitoring:

The blog announcement for 1.0.8 release is here:

EDIT 20190302:
