February 11, 2020 — BarryK

Version 2.2.5 was released on January 22, 2020:

Very interesting improvements this time. See release announcement here:

One of the "interesting" developments is that bootup time, to the desktop, is 2-3 seconds quicker. This is due to removal of an odd little quirk that was used when building for ARM boards:

...udevd now processes kernel uevents, hence module loading, faster.

Bugs, or maybe-bugs

The above post also mentions renaming of /etc/init.d/messagebus to 05-messagebus, so that 'dbus-daemon' starts sooner. That fixed 'bluetoothd', but the question was raised whether there might be other repercussions. Yeah, there might be -- this link explains that 'acpid' should start before 'dbus-daemon':

...OK, that will be looked at for the next release.

At bootup you may spot an error message "fixlayers: line 115". Yes, there is a syntax error, but it is non-critical, so the fix will be in the next release.

There is another error message at bootup, when 'alsactl' runs. It reports /usr/share/alsa/init/00main is missing. This is non-fatal, and it is only reported at first bootup.

Feedback

EDIT 2020-02-11:
I decided to fix those two issues mentioned above -- the syntax error in 'fixlayers' in the initrd, and make 'acpid' run before 'dbus-daemon'.

Bumped the version to 2.2.9.1, but English build only (511.7MB):
