How to download the latest version of Firefox
I am taming Firefox, getting it to run nicely on my Acer Aspire 1
laptop. Over the last couple of days I posted to the blog about issues
with Firefox. It even froze the desktop when attempted to do an update.
I have managed to completely disable updating, will document how that is achieved later.
A different update strategy: Each release of EasyOS will have the
latest version of Firefox. No need for users to use the auto-update
feature in Firefox. You can turn it on if you want, but no need. I am
bringing out new releases of EasyOS quite frequently.
I found that it is easy to automatically download the latest FF:
wget 'https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-latest-ssl&os=linux64&lang=en-US' -O firefox-en-us.tar.bz2
sync
wget 'https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-latest-ssl&os=linux64&lang=de' -O firefox-de.tar.bz2
sync
wget 'https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-latest-ssl&os=linux64&lang=fr' -O firefox-fr.tar.bz2
sync
The plan is, will have a skeleton FF PET, and in woofQ, when building
EasyOS, will download the latest tarballs of FF, and expand the
appropriate one into usr/lib/firefox for each of the en, de and fr
builds.
This is really great, keen to finish implementing it. Hmmm, nearing midnight. The night is still young!
