Remove builtin packages fixed

August 07, 2025 — BarryK

The "Setup" menu category has "Remove builtin packages". This does a pretend remove of packages from the easy.sfs read-only file, for the purpose of remastering, usually with a smaller and/or different selection of packages.

Actually, remastering easy.sfs is less important now, as we have woofQ2, that makes it easy to build your own flavour of Easy Excalibur from scratch, with only the packages you want. Forum member FeodorF has been playing with woofQ2:

The script that does the removal is /usr/sbin/remove_builtin; unfortunately, james2 dscovered it is broken:

Yes, woofQ2 is a whole new ball game, with APT doing all the package management underneath. I have had to completely re-write the script. Done, but not yet tested.

Grumble, the remaster script is probably also broken.

Ha ha, I'm thinking that we are on the "home run" to releasing Easy Excalibur, but we keep finding major things to fix. Well, we'll get there, then I'll have a holiday.
