EasyOS Excalibur-series version 7.0.15 released

September 27, 2025 — BarryK

Release notes:

There are still some outstanding issues, most importantly, since changing to using overlay filesystem instead of aufs, direct-save of the session is broken. This is not the default, so not a problem; it requires ticking a checkbox after having clicked on the desktop "save" icon.

Technical note: if direct-save is enabled, it can be disabled by removing file /mnt/wkg/.zramtl This could be done if direct-save had been enabled and it broke bootup. Having disabled it, it may then be required to bootup with rollback to previous saved session.

As reported above, Lockdown mode is fixed; however, there is another problem due to overlayfs. Session-saving does not work. This is not normally a problem, as the nature of lockdown mode is that you don't save anything. In that case of disabled drives, if you have booted from a usb-stick, it can be replugged and then the session saved to it; well, that is, if saving worked.

Changes have been made to the kernel to hopefully support Wireguard. This topic is being discussed in the forum. It may require disabling of the firewall, which can be done via the menu, or simply by changing /etc/init.d/rc.firewall to non-executable then reboot.

...I posted to the forum that Geany text editor had become unstable and I suspected gtk+-3. So, I compiled gtk+-3 (a slightly older version) and used that in the 7.0.15 build and now Geany is stable.

The gtk segfault in /var/log/messages is something else rather odd. I found it reported online by lots of people. It is not a EasyOS-specific thing.

EDIT:
Ooops, my compile of gtk3 has broken geany and gimp. Reverted to the Debian gtk3 packages, release 7.0.16 uploaded.
