XLibre is rocketing ahead!

October 31, 2025 — BarryK

I have presented how I intend to position EasyOS going forward, as somewhat like a traditional Puppy Linux, in some regards anyway. One of those traditional features is to stay with X11, not migrate to Wayland.

The people in control of the git repositories for Xorg/X11 seem to be deprecating it, and pushing for Wayland. It seems that they don't want further development of X11 and this has resulted in it being forked. One guy has done this, and I wondered what has become of his fork...

Today I checked, and it is really good news. There are about 30 developers contributing, and commits every day. Very active, see github:

Some background that explains why the fork happened:

It is great that many people are getting behind X11 development.

There is a lot posted online about Wayland versus X11. Here is one that is very much pro-X11:

...perhaps going to Wayland is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
