Tweaking Firefox preferences

November 15, 2021 — BarryK

I posted about setting defaults for Firefox:

The blog announcement for Easy 3.1.10 lists some issues with Firefox:

First startup having two tabs showing the home.htm page, item-2, is due to duplicate entries in 'policies.json' and 'prefs.js'. I have removed the entry from policies.json, it is now:

I am wary about Firefox sending data to Mozilla. In "about:preferences#privacy", there are a couple of checkboxes under "Firefox data collection and use". I have un-ticked those, and added some lines to the default prefs.js in the firefox-skeleton PET:

user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "file:///usr/share/doc/home.htm");
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "93.0");
user_pref("browser.tabs.warnOnClose", false);
user_pref("layers.acceleration.disabled", true);
user_pref("", true);
user_pref("", false);
user_pref("", false);
user_pref("", false);
user_pref("privacy.sanitize.pending", "[]");
user_pref("datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled", false);
user_pref("app.shield.optoutstudies.enabled", false);

Users can turn it on if they want to, but I feel better with it defaulting to off.
